The elephant on the couch↗

If mental difficulties, existential dilemmas and social pressure are symptoms, can it be that the diagnosis is patriarchy? And can it be that psychotherapy, theoretically a strong response to all the aforementioned challenges, “suffers” from the same “disease”? How are psychotherapeutic models constructed? How trained are mental health specialists in the gender dimension of their patients’ journeys? Do mental health specialists recognize sexism, homophobia, and transphobia? And how critically do they examine their own viewpoint and the cultural context in which they work?

WOW Festival 2024

Sexist language & internalized misogyny ↗

“She’s someone’s daughter or partner, that’s why she’s advancing in her career,” they used to say. “Her hiring is the result of quotas,” they say now. Sexism never dies. It corrodes and challenges every effort towards inclusion. Sometimes, it emanates from women themselves, who internalize and reproduce it, without realizing it.
